The Top Most Downloaded Apps of the Year
How many apps do you have on your phone? Chances are, it’s more than one – and if you’re like most smartphone users, they probably didn’t come pre-installed! Each year, app developers take advantage of the holiday season to roll out some of the best apps of the year – and this past year was no exception. What were the top most downloaded apps of the year? That would be Pokemon GO – and maybe... just maybe... you had one downloaded too?
1.Snapchat:
Since Snapchat was released in 2011, it's become one of the most popular social media apps. It's a mobile photo and video messaging application that allows users to send short messages to friends or post photos for public consumption. What makes this app different from other social media apps is that these photos can't be saved - they are automatically deleted after 10 seconds. This has created a sense of urgency among users who post content on Snapchat, which has led to user growth and increased advertising revenue. One of the ways companies advertise on Snapchat is by hosting 'Live Stories', which are story lines posted by multiple contributors with all content available for viewing at once. Brands like McDonalds have leveraged this format as a way to drive sales through product placement and ads.
2.instagram:
This app is an online photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, apply a digital filter to them, add text or drawings on them, and share them on different social media platforms. Instagram has been downloaded over 500 million times worldwide. It is currently one of the most popular apps for smartphones with a rating of 4.3 stars in Apple’s App Store. It was also recently named one of Time magazine's 25 Best Inventions for 2012. There are 200 million photos uploaded every day, which are seen by 130 million active monthly users. And it just surpassed Twitter as the third largest mobile app in America. Now it's become one of the fastest growing companies in history.
3.Facebook:
When we think about our smartphones, Facebook is one of the most popular apps. With over a billion daily users, it's clear that Facebook has been on top for years. It's not just used to keep up with friends and family- you can also use it to organize events, find new jobs, and other real-time opportunities. The app is continually updating and improving so you'll never be bored. You can download this app for free on your smartphone! There are tons of great features like posting videos from Live or Instagram Stories and adding stickers. For those who have the iPhone 7 or later, you'll need the latest version. If you don't know how to update, then go into settings -> iTunes & App Store -> Automatic Downloads and toggle updates on. If you want to see what is trending in your area right now, tap News Feed in the upper right hand corner. To view your notifications, swipe down from the top of your phone screen and you will get a list. To edit your profile or log out of Facebook, go to Account Settings -> General Account Settings -> Edit Profile.
4.Twitter:
This list is compiled by tracking app downloads on the App Store and Google Play. Here are this year's top ten most downloaded apps: 1. YouTube 2. Facebook 3. Gmail 4. Pandora 5. Snapchat 6. Instagram 7. WhatsApp 8. Messenger 9. Netflix 10. Spotify 11, Temple Run 2 12,
Google Maps 13, Words with Friends 14

Let us enlighten you - Candy Crush Saga was number 17 15, Temple Run 16 at 18, and Words with Friends 17 ranked number 20 18 . It's no surprise that there were many games to make it onto this list. Even though some may be considered old school, they continue to dominate the market today. With all of these successful apps, what do you think will happen next? Will they continue to evolve or will newer applications take their place? Share your thoughts below! Share your thoughts below!
Who knows, perhaps something similar might appear on iOS 9? What are you hoping to see Apple introduce in their new OS update? Is there something missing from iOS 8 that would help improve your daily life as an iPhone user? Let us know in the comments section below! And don't forget to share how many times you used each app too – just for fun. :-) Also share how often did you use each app on Android too. That would be very interesting as well!
5.YouTube:
This is a list of the top most downloaded apps of this year. This list includes some popular apps such as Spotify, Netflix, and Pokemon Go. Also on the list are Instagram and YouTube.
Finally, Pokémon Go was released this year so it is not included in the 2015 list. However, its popularity increased drastically from December to February and the app remained number one for a good amount of time. The creator's expectations were that the game would have about 10 million downloads but now it has surpassed 500 million downloads which makes this game one of the most successful mobile games in history. A downside to this game is that there have been reports of car accidents because people are playing the game while driving. There also has been a couple reports of injuries among pedestrians walking across streets or intersections without looking up from their phones. With all these side effects, what is your opinion on this game? If you have never played the game before, I recommend waiting until the creators make some changes to ensure safety before downloading it. However, if you are already a player of the game, then I suggest playing cautiously and looking up when crossing streets or intersections to prevent injury. What do you think of this game? Do you agree with me that the side effects outweigh the positives? Share your thoughts below!
